FRANK LLOYD – ACTOR, DIRECTOR, PRODUCER
Frank Lloyd began his Hollywood career in 1913 as an actor in one-reel silent films. He directed his last film, the wide screen color epic “The Last Command”, in 1955.
A winner of 2 Oscars for Best Director, his his films include the 1934 Mutiny on the Bounty, Cavalcade, and If I Were King. Frank worked on more than 180 films, mainly as director but also as actor, writer, and producer.
Frank Lloyd, began his acting career on the London vaudeville stage. He emigrated to Canada in 1910 and by 1913 was acting in the fledgling Hollywood. He rose quickly from actor to director. In the Golden Age of Hollywood Frank worked with many of the great actors and legendary studios. He was one of the founders and the 2nd president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and also a founder of the Director’s Guild.
